For those times when your stomach is just loaded with acid.

It just happens.

Your evil stomach pumps out acid for no good reason.

It has nothing to do with your lunch meal of double chili burrito with onions,  Tabasco, kerosene, and gunpowder.

Just take aTums.

That’ll fix it!

Enjoy the comfort that comes from shutting down your digestive process.

Have another burrito!

The modern church is antacid.

You spend the week consuming garbage.

Living life with no regard for the health of your soul.

Your conscience flares up and tries to warn you.

“You’re behaving badly!”

That sure is uncomfortable!

Quick! Pop a couple of “God Loves You So Much” sermons!

“Nothing is your fault!”

“Don’t suffer from guilt!”

“God doesn’t care how you behave!”

“Here, have a burrito!”

Stomach acid exists for a reason.

Acid is not the enemy.

Neutralizing stomach acid on a regular basis is a bad idea.

Your conscience exists for a reason too.

Remorse is not the enemy.

It is the signal that something is wrong.

Wise people don’t neutralize that signal.

  1. John,

Great to see a new blog post!

Sad that many people seek out a church to “validate” them and their behavior rather that finding a church that will help them change their behavior to become more Christ-like.

I guess that would be like getting a diagnosis for cancer from a doctor. Then getting a second and third opinion of the same diagnosis. But then continuing to seek out doctors’ opinions until you find one who will say you don’t have cancer.

It will not get the treatment you need, but it will surely show you that “not every doctor out there is the same.”

  2. Great illustration John! Also a much needed reminder as the world around us continues to bombard us with its wickedness cloaked in “freedom to choose”.
