The President won’t improve your pathetic life.

(S)He can’t.

A President can only make policy.

A policy can do nothing to help you.

Need proof?

“Henceforth citizens of the United States shall be fulfilled in their jobs.”

Here’s another:

“Rudeness is prohibited in public space.”

One more:

“Every citizen will care about the circumstances of other people.”

Each of these is a noble policy.

Well intentioned, conscientious…

…and ultimately powerless.

Unless people live by them, policies are just platitudes.

Empty words.

YOU decide whether or not to follow the law.

The President can’t force obedience.

The police can’t force obedience.

Religion can’t force obedience.

It doesn’t matter who’s in the White House.

You’re going to set your own policies.

You follow certain rules when it’s convenient.

(Ever driven faster than the speed limit?)

You rationalize breaking the rules when it suits you.

(Ever fudged on your tax return?)

Congress can poop-out policies all day long.

“Treat women with respect.”

“Treat everyone equally regardless of race, sex, religion…”

“Buy health insurance.”

“Possession of cocaine is illegal.”

“Don’t molest children.”

And you can tell congress to shove ’em all.

That’s free will, baby!

Do what you want.

Then accept the consequences.

Your crappy life isn’t the President’s fault.

It isn’t the cops’ fault.

It isn’t the fault of religion.

Your crappy life is your fault.

The President cannot change that.
