A few blatant relativists commented on my previous post explaining that ‘truth’ is different from ‘facts.’ They are trying to convince me that it’s possible to have personal ‘truth’ that is separate from universal ‘fact.’ The gist of their argument can be summarized by this statement:
“Facts rule the day. Math, gravity, weather. Things no one of any belief system can deny.”
Except for hardened skeptics, people understand ‘facts’ to be things that are ‘true.’ It is dishonest to suggest that the truth can exist completely detached from facts. It is also dishonest to tell me you have a ‘fact’ that has nothing to do with ‘truth.’
Some facts (like math) are verifiable. Some facts (like what I dreamed about last night) have to be accepted by faith. Facts that require faith are still true. Just because a fact is unprovable doesn’t mean it is untrue.
Why would someone want to put ‘truth’ and ‘fact’ into different categories? Well, often it’s so they can pick and choose their religious beliefs. Christianity teaches that selfishness is sin. It is easier to dismiss Christianity as ‘unprovable’ than to deal with what it teaches. And it’s MUCH EASIER to say ‘wickedness’ is made up by superstitious religious people than to deal with the fact that you are wicked.
When you tell me that I can have ‘my truth’ and you can have ‘your truth’ — you are appealing to a third Truth that is above BOTH your truth and my truth. In other words, you need OBJECTIVE TRUTH to express your belief in SUBJECTIVE truth. The argument that all truth is relative collapses the moment you speak it.
The truth does not need your permission to exist. The truth exists whether you believe it or not. That is a fact.
(Romans 3:4) What if some did not have faith? Will their lack of faith nullify God’s faithfulness? Not at all! Let God be true, and every man a liar. As it is written: “So that you may be proved right when you speak and prevail when you judge.”

Oh thank God! Someone who can express what I know to be true but do not know how to express! God bless you John!
