religious building

The United States was a Christian nation.

“John, you jerk! Separation of church and state!!! The founding fathers were all atheists!! The US absolutely is NOT a Christian nation and it NEVER WAS!!!! Stop forcing your beliefs on other people!!!”

I know you think the ‘separation of Church and State’ means that religion has no place in politics or public dialogue. You’re wrong. The government is not allowed to meddle in religious affairs. That means the Governor of your State can’t force you to go to church on Sunday morning. You like that, right?

It also means Congress can’t make you say prayers before meals, or read the Bible at bedtime, or sing hymns at Christmas, or homeschool your kids, or put fish bumper stickers on your car, or repent and be baptized. You like that too, right?

It also means that atheists can freely participate in the public forum. Nobody can be disqualified from holding public office just because they don’t believe in God. You like that, right?

It also means that Christians can freely participate in public forums and cannot be disqualified from…

“JOHN! YOU JERK!!! Separation of Church and state means RELIGIOUS PEOPLE CAN’T FORCE THEIR VIEWS ON MEEEEE!!!!!!! STOP OPPRESSING ME YOU FASCIST!!!!!!”

I’ll be on my way now. You have a nice day.

(Acts 18:12) While Gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews made a united attack on Paul and brought him into court. “This man,” they charged, “is persuading the people to worship God in ways contrary to the law.” Just as Paul was about to speak, Gallio said to the Jews, “If you Jews were making a complaint about some misdemeanor or serious crime, it would be reasonable for me to listen to you. But since it involves questions about words and names and your own law—settle the matter yourselves. I will not be a judge of such things.”

  1. Atheists say that we can’t force our beliefs on them (which we’re really not). Aren’t they doing exactly what they’re telling us not to do?
