Awhile ago I wrote that you can’t be a Christian and vote for a Democrat. Christianity and the Democratic party platform are at odds with one another. Just like you can’t fall asleep and watch Netflix or be married and single simultaneously, you can’t confess Christianity and vote for candidates that believe killing her baby is a woman’s right.
I know it’s outrageous to let my religion shape my politics but It turns out, I’m not the only person who does this. A priest in South Carolina agrees with me! I’m not Catholic. There are multiple theological points about which this Priest and I would disagree. But I’ll applaud the audacity of this man for denying communion to a former Vice-President of America. It takes some gumption to tell Joe Biden, “Sorry. No sacraments for you.”
I love rules. They make life possible. Without rules, you cannot exist. You can’t last a moment without the rules of physics, biology, mathematics, or religion. Physics, biology and mathematics are set in concrete. You can’t break them. You can’t compromise with gravity. You can’t fudge physics.
The rules of religion are a little different because it seems like you can muck around with them. The consequences of breaking these rules aren’t always instantly obvious. You can go for years claiming to be a Christian without following any of the rules. This is easier to do when you’ve got some clout in the culture. When you make the rules, you can break the rules.
So it’s good to be reminded that Joe Biden didn’t make the rules of religion. I will learn from his example. You should too. Professing to follow Christ is quite expensive. It costs you everything. If you’re a Democrat, it’s going to cost your party affiliation. Those are the rules. Jesus was quite clear about which position He is to occupy in your list of priorities. Politics can’t save your soul but they can be the reason you lose it.
Denying Joe Biden communion is an act of supreme love. It’s a signal that he’s wandered away from God’s rules. When you realize that you’re breaking those rules, you have a choice. Either repent and change your behavior or pretend there aren’t consequences for wickedness. Wisdom chooses the first. Fools choose the second.

One of the biggest problems with many Christians is they base their vote on the solely on a candidates stance on abortion. You hold abortion up as the sole moral stance one needs to gain your vote. I take that back, gay marriage also seems to be another huge issue. But given that those politicians who oppose one tends to oppose the other they kind of go hand in hand.
But what about all that Jesus taught? What about feeding the hungry? Clothing the naked? Giving shelter to the homeless? What about welcoming the stranger? Loving our enemies? Taking care of prisoners?
The Republican party vilifies the immigrant and the refugee. They claim the refugee is here to commit terrorist acts, even thought after taking in 800,000 since 9/11 that has not happened. They claim that immigrants are criminals even though immigrants commit crimes at a lower rate thatn those born inside our borders. Trump recently claimed that DACA recipients were “hardened criminals” even though a one must have a clean record to even qualify for DACA or if one does get into legal trouble it revolks their status. Thanks to this administration we have torn apart families seeking asylum in this country. We have deported the parents and put their children up for adoption. We are keeping kids in deplorable conditions. This administration argues against providing for their basic hygiene needs. We are refusing to welcome the stranger. Never mind that the problems in Central America are directly tied to our meddling their in the past.
The Republican party vilifies the homeless. A city recently made it a crime to sleep on the streets. Instead of trying to help the homeless many the Republican party tries to push the homeless out of sight so they don’t have to see them. (In the parable of the Good Samaritan, the Republican party are the ones who crossed to road to avoid those in need).
The Republican vilifies the poor. They constantly attempt to reduce funding programs that help them or put up roadblocks to use those programs. Kids are refused hot meals in some schools because their parents cannot afford it. The claim raising the minimum wage will be harmful. They demonize unions.
Finally abortion. The Republican party refuses to do anything that has proven to reduce unwanted pregnancies which in turn reduces abortion. The fight against comprehensive sex education in schools, They fight against easy access to affordable or free contraception.
. I will tell you this. I cannot, as a Christian, vote Republican.
None of your points are true.
They are true, but ones needs to peek outside the door of the church to see..
The word vilifies means: “to utter slanderous and abusive statements against; Defame”
The Republican party does not do that with immigrants, the homeless, or the poor.
Your belief that comprehensive sex education in schools will reduce unwanted pregnancy is naive.
Data shows that comprehensive sex education does reduce unwanted pregnancy…

It is not my belief. Data shows that it works
https://www.acog.org/Clinical-Guidance-and-Publications/Committee-Opinions/Committee-on-Adolescent-Health-Care/Comprehensive-Sexuality-Education?IsMobileSet=false
Data doesn’t mean your belief is not naive.
Data means it works. It is not a belief, it is fact.
Ok.
You think God is cool with killing babies before they’re born?
1. Never said or even implied that.
2. If the desire is to reduce or eliminate abortions, then you need to reduce the number of unwanted pregnancies. One of the tools that has been proven to work is comprehensive sex education
Do you vote Democrat? If yes, how do you justify that in regards to their position on killing babies before birth?
Stop commenting and get some work done.
🙂
Yes, I vote Democrat. As I stated above, there are many more points to consider besides abortion. I assume, and correct me if I am wrong, that is the only position you look at when casting a vote.
As far as abortion is concerned, most Republicans claim to be against abortion but do very little about it. The ones that do only want to make it illegal. At the same time many want to cut the programs that assist young single mothers or poor families. They fight against sex education in schools. In my neck of the woods some high schools offer daycare. And some Republicans argue against that. Not to mention they also fight against raising the minimum wage. Yes they oppose abortion, but they also oppose support for those women who do decide to keep their babies.
While most democrats to support abortion, they also support the programs that help reduce abortions such as access to reproductive healthcare. They support programs that help poor and single mothers. It does no good to oppose abortion then offer no help when a women does decide to have her baby.
.
Your justification for voting for candidates that support killing babies before birth is 1) there are other issues that are more important 2) the Republicans are doing nothing to stop the slaughter.
I disagree with your position.
Sigh…Once again you are trying to restate something I never said or implied. I never said other issues were more important, I said there are other issues to consider when voting for our representatives. In my opinion Democrats are doing more to reduce abortion than Republicans.
If you’re voting for Democrats despite their support of killing unborn babies it means you consider those other issues to be more important.
As a Christian, if you don’t think God is cool with killing babies, you can’t vote for Democrats. If you’re not a Christian, vote for whoever you want.
Oh, and I am not trying to get you to agree with my position. You asked me how I can justify voting for a Democrat and I answered
Thanks for sharing.
So let’s flip the script a little. Do you think God is cool with denying asylum seekers entry into the country? Do you thing God is cool with separating families, deporting the parents then adopting the kids to other people? Do you thing God is ok with us now refusing to take in refugees? Do you think God is ok with allowing a US resident to get murdered by being dismembered alive? Do you think God is ok with denying veterans the help they need? Do you think God is ok with people dying because they cannot afford their medication? I could go on and on. Because that is what you get when you vote for the GOP. But what I will not tell you is that you cannot be a Christian and vote for Republicans…
Since you’re not trying to get me to agree with your position, why are you telling me these things?
Jesus served Judas Iscariot communion. I’m glad that priest (or ANY human being) is not in charge of deciding who is in and who is out. And I’m also glad that Jesus, and not John Banyan, is in charge of deciding who his true followers are. This is one of the most non-Christlike things I’ve read in a long time.
“Anyone who does not hate his father and mother is not worthy of me.” – Jesus Christ
You think political affiliation is irrelevant?
Pretty sure advocating for the murder of babies upsets Jesus and would not be considered a fruit of the spirit.
That’s what I think too, but as Sam correctly pointed out, it’s not my call. Maybe God is cool with it.
I wish God would have written down some things he isn’t cool with so we could know, like his stance on baby murder. Perhaps a book giving us guidance? Ah well.
“I’m glad Jesus decides who is in and who’s out…and when it comes to Christ-likeness, John Branyan is definitely out.”
-A Person Who I’m pretty sure wasn’t trying to be ironic.
😂
What is the unspoken commentary that him being denied after so many years, when it should be normal, is the headline? I’m sure the priest in DE is feeling awkward right about now.
