lightning strikes

To you who claim to be working toward unity and inclusiveness: Stop being divisive. Your constant criticism of unspecified ‘Christians’ is tedious, confusing, and undermines my efforts to bring people together.

“John, you jerk! What are you even talking about? Are you so hard up for topics that you’re making up stuff to be offended about?!!!”

I know better than to engage on your page. You’ve made it clear that, ‘you can do whatever you want with your space’ and deleting alternative points of view is an act of heroism in your book. So, I’ll paste a quote from you below as an example of ‘what I’m talking about.’

YOU SAID: “…the [article in the newspaper] focused on the tremendous pressures being brought to bear on the LBGTQ+ community. Many are leaving the state, looking for a safer climate in which to raise a family…What galls me about this swing to the authoritarian right is that it’s being fueled by a subset of Christians who appear to be quite OK with serving a caricature of Jesus and reading a Bible without any red letters in it. They make it hard for those of us who take the real Jesus quite seriously and are keen on understanding and applying His message.”

If you want me sympathize with the LGBTQ+ community for the ‘tremendous pressures being brought to bear’ on them, you’ll need to tell me what those pressures are. Accusations about a ‘swing to the authoritarian right’ need to be proven before I’m going to spend energy working to ‘swing’ in another direction.

Do you know what galls me? I’ll tell you specifically so you won’t need to speculate.

Your condemnation of a vague ‘subset of Christians’ is repugnant, petty, and ignorant. It galls me to read such unjust and divisive hate speech. Who are these Christians you’re talking about? Name them. Link to their videos, books and blogs. Point me toward them so I can join you in opposing them.

Right now, I don’t believe you (which probably galls you too). I think you’re a shill for ungodly people who have outsmarted you. It is YOU who is serving a caricature of Jesus and reading a Bible that has no red letters.

(Psalm 15:1) Lord, who may dwell in your sanctuary?

Who may live on your holy hill?

He whose walk is blameless

and who does what is righteous,

who speaks the truth from his heart

and has no slander on his tongue,

who does his neighbor no wrong

and casts no slur on his fellowman,
