You’re a big fan of vulnerability, huh?

I’m going to guess that you used to be a ‘Christian’ but you left the church because it was full of bigots. I’ll bet you repeatedly opened your heart and those church folks judged you. They made you feel guilty and shameful. They made you feel unsafe. Right?

I’ll bet when you were a Christian, your deepest desire was to teach your brothers and sisters. You yearned to help them open their minds. You wanted them to be as enlightened and spiritual as you—but they refused to be vulnerable.

I’ll bet your criticism offended them. They never appreciated your insights. They never thanked you for helping them improve their character. Instead, they called you a ‘trouble-maker’ and asked you to be quiet.

Now that you’ve separated yourself from those religious hypocrites, you can express your true feelings. Away from the tyranny of the ‘institutional church,’ you can speak your mind without fear because those guarded, closed-minded snobs aren’t around to remind you that you’re just like them.

Exiting the church revealed the truth. You don’t want vulnerability for yourself. You want it for everyone else. You know vulnerability is not a virtue. It’s a liability.

In nature, the vulnerable creatures don’t survive. Predators pick them off. They die of exposure to the elements. Faith in Jesus makes a person strong, confident, and resilient. Prophets like you must find followers among the pathetic, unsure, and vulnerable. You need weakness to exploit.

I’ll bet that’s why you’re such a fan of vulnerability.

(Matthew 7:24) “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.”
