It was a disaster!

A week of failure.

Last week, I mean.

I didn’t post a new podcast so my faithful listener was alone to face the hardships of life!

Last week, I mean.

This week, the podcast is posted.

A shining beacon of truth and positivity that features:

  • Intelligent conversation
  • Poor quality audio
  • Random background noises
  • Regular interruptions from children
  • Talking with our mouths full

AND…a discussion about the appropriateness of laughter.

Is it okay to laugh at people when you’re having a disagreement?

What if your laughter upsets people who you love?

We’ll talk about this (with our mouths full) and this episode of the Comedy Sojourn Podcast.

  1. Psalm 2 describes God sitting in heaven and laughing at the foolish schemes of men to break His cords of morality. I’m pretty sure He laughs at some of the ridiculous things people like Richard Dawkins says also. Things like ” an alien race evolved in another galaxy and then seeded life on this planet”. While comments like that are sad considering that people actually believe it, it’s still pretty darn funny.

  2. I think you can laugh at some of statements that are made but it doesn’t have to come across in the comment section. I have heard it said though you can say almost anything as long as you put LOL at the end. Much like the podcast I could see my self on both sides of the argument. At one moment wanting to go sarcasm mode ala Elijah at Mt Carmel and other times wanting to be respectful because I am reminded that Jesus died for them too even if they don’t want it.

  3. Okay, so I gave the podcast a full listen driving about today.

Regarding the conversation by proxy with Luke, I felt relatively conflicted. It felt like two different discussions were happening simultaneously.

First, I think laughter in debate is fine in concept, but is a glass Cannon. It can deftly make a point, but if the person to whom you’re trying to make a point (the other conversationalist or an observer) rightly or wrongly picks up any malice, walls immediately go up and the conversation is that much harder. On the other hand, self deprecating or off topic humor often humanizes you, which I think usually greases a good conversation.

Secondly and relatedly, I think mocking the other’s position, no matter how absurd, is a weak move. Not necessarily wrong (the appearance of evil is not “looks like evil” in my understanding of the passage), but it seems weak or lazy. It almost entirely serves to polarize – nay sayers are offended and put up walls, while the already convinced laugh and nod. Even when it’s hysterical (and it often is), I don’t think it’s useful.

PS, WordPress still doesn’t notify me of replies to my comments on your site – so if I ever don’t respond, it’s not due to ignoring you necessarily… More likely forgetting about you. Not sure if that’s better… Hehe

    1. Thanks for bulking up Luke’s position! I’ll speak for him and say he appreciates it! 😉 And I can’t argue with anything you’ve said.

  4. Yay! Posting about the podcast is back! Now I have an outlet for my thoughts and many criticisms… And thoughts that only sound like criticisms… Like a few weeks ago, I couldn’t concentrate on anything else that was said after someone started playing Sonic the Hedgehog. It’s not really a criticism, since I probably enjoyed that more than the content. ^_^.

I look forward to giving it a listen during the work drive today.

    1. You know, you can listen to the podcast in a podcast player, like a normal human being, right?

I’ve been following some of your dialogues with the atheists on other blogs. You’re so much more polite and respectful than I am. I’m taking some screen shots to use in my upcoming apologetic conference. I appreciate how patiently you walk them through their idiocy.

      1. I do listen with an app, but shouting my feedback at my car stereo is less rewarding than a blog comment… Marginally less rewarding, but significant enough that I prefer posting

I’m glad you are enjoying the back and forth with them. Ark and Kia did break my patience one time… I’m relatively resolved not to let that happen again (though, I’m not the best at resolutions, hehe).

Hopefully your audience will find the slides useful, regardless of whether they are being used as a good, bad, or indifferent example ^_^.

          1. Wow. That is quite a break down. I’ll give it a good read and engage in some manner later today.

    2. Lol. That would be Collin.
He would play 12 hours of video games every single day if I’d let him.
