The effectiveness of wearing a surgical mask when you go out in public is hotly debated. There is evidence that certain types of masks, worn properly, do reduce the spread of infections. But there is even more evidence that ANY mask, worn in ANY manner, is 100% effective in protecting you from the attacks of something even MORE DANGEROUS than viruses.
If you want to protect yourself from virtue-signaling activists, wear a mask. If you don’t have a mask, wrap a handkerchief over the lower half of your face, like a cattle rustler from a western movie. If you don’t have a handkerchief, pull the collar of a turtle-neck sweater up over your mouth, like a member of an 80’s band. As long as part of your face is hidden from view, the angry mob will leave you alone.

During the lockdown, activists were able to feed their voracious egos by posting pictures of themselves observing ‘stay at home’ orders. Sitting at home and drawing unemployment was enough to achieve hero status. Now, as the country re-opens, activists are being forced to leave their homes in order to obtain the undeserved kudos they need to survive.
Activists identify compassionate individuals by their masks. Anyone without a mask is a wretched villain who cares about the economy, not people. The activists, driven by love, will attack and destroy anyone who doesn’t share their commitment to the safety of our most vulnerable citizens.
If you do not want to become a victim of the virtue signaler’s crusade of caring, put on a mask! It probably won’t keep you from catching the flu, but it will keep you from catching hell from some sanctimonious nitwit.

I wear a mask at work in an assisted living facility, because it is required. I have worn a mask in my husband’s favorite home improvement store, because they require it. While I don’t think wearing a mask is necessary, I respect a business’s right to ask me to do so upon entering their property.
I’ve gotten dirty looks, but I’m grateful for not being accosted by strangers.
My ersatz mask is little more than a placebo as far as the dread disease goes. But it is indeed essential for hiding from any virtue-signalling activists that may lurking hereabouts. I have not knowingly encountered any, so I guess it works. The mask is also important for appeasing the police state. My state’s governor has mandated the wearing of face coverings when we’re inside a retail establishment. But we don’t have to wear them to take a permissible short walk around the neighborhood, and most of us don’t.
I have to admit that I began following this blog fully prepared to respectfully disagree with most of your conclusions, based on my own personal politics and beliefs, being that I am a left-leaning Christian from New York City.
That has not been the case, however, at least not as often as I anticipated. I admire both the wit you display in your writing, and the compassionate levelheadedness you use when addressing your detractors, even the ones seemingly blinded by hate.
I hope you stay safe in these trying times, look forward to reading more of your posts, and pray for the continued well-being of you and your loved ones.
Respectful disagreement is always welcome here. Thanks for giving me a chance to explain myself.
I will warn you though that my charm and wit is quite irresistible and you will have a hard time maintaining your left-leaning views. Just FYI.
Welcome to the clique. Thanks for commenting!
Thank you for your words of welcome.
To address your actual post, I’m rather alarmed by how many members of the pro-mask lynch mob seem to have no idea how taking precautions actually works. They’ll touch their faces, rub their eyes, pick their phone up off a dirty surface and then hold it up to their cheeks. But if they cross paths with someone who isn’t wearing a mask, the judgment starts.
Not only is it virtue signaling at its finest, but these people seem to be operating under a false sense of security so deep that it’s become delusional. A mask won’t do a thing if you don’t wash your hands and observe good hygiene. Point this out to most of them, though, and you’ll be the target of so many ad hominem attacks that your browser will disintegrate.
Precisely THIS! Here in Sebastian, about five weeks ago, close to 100% of the store and staff had masks on- apparently I picked a very paranoid hour of the day to visit my local home improvement store. As I navigated aisles, one particular woman actually recoiled, eyes wide, when I walked past her- well out of the “magical zone” number that the left has sledge-hammered into our minds is a “safe” distance. Amusingly so, some weeks ago, it was determined by the unbiased CDC that ‘droplets could go as far as THIRTEEN FEET!’ We patiently awaited the update from the communist decisions center, and there was NO response by our credible and trusted media, to spread the news! There would be no retaping of the floors, with big yellow “X’s” and those high-dollar floor reminder signs would have to be redone and moved. Nothing was changed. We found this interesting, as should any thinking individual… After all, the majority had recently lifted up the CDC and WHO to Godly status and this little gem could heighten hysteria! This agency and its very whims (wear a mask, don’t wear a mask, doesn’t need to BE a mask, a hankie, piece of paper towel will do.) I saw the paper towel accessory yesterday, so I’ve added it to my list. Ever wondered about our EYES not needing to be covered?!? Is the CDC saying that the eyes are NOT a viable organ for infection or disease? I had the misfortune of being in the self check line amongst 100% of those “saving lives” with cloth, that day of Miss Wide Eyes. As the masked employee came over to approve my huffing materials, I mean, spray paint, I asked her if she could please wipe off the credit card machine, which CLEARLY had chunks of “humans are disgusting” on it. HER eyes got wide, (Miss Wide Eyes II) she backed away, and walked away without responding. I said “excuse me?” twice, to which she ignored me., From behind me, a 30something male, wearing his mask I needed for my painting, but were curiously OUT OF STOCK (everywhere) “Why don’t you just shut up and get out of here?!?” to which, the mob joined in, in agreement. It was then that my disgust and anger at my fellow Americans for being so gullible and quick to relinquish their personal freedoms, came out. I wasn’t proud that I whipped out a non-Christian retort, and left the store, half-expecting the mob to follow me to my car, it was THAT ugly. I’ve never worn a mask, and it would have to be a pretty extreme situation to get (force) me to wear one. Things have relaxed somewhat, here, as time goes by, and yes, opening up does cause an increase in cases. We know and expect that. Living in paradise, where tourism is our number one industry, the increase will be the norm. We just continue to pray for the wisdom of those “Lording” over us, to keep moving forward, and to not leave us stagnant where we are, and to NEVER return to where we’ve been. Sorry so long- I’ll think less, next time! 😉
You never need to apologize for thinking around here. Thanks for spinning your tale.I understand what it’s like to have the angry mob hissing at you and I’m glad you made it out without further incident.
I’m not a mask wearer either and so far, I’ve not been assaulted by the caring crusaders. I’ll be sure to write about it if I have an experience similar to yours.

This is the truth!! I wear a mask only to avoid the hostility of people controlled by fear and through that fear point their chest and proclaim how much they care about others and if you don’t wear a mask you are killing people. The data does not support their fear, but never let facts get in the way of emotional overreacting
