The church ditched Biblical truth for catchy phrases and that’s part of the reason Christians think that celebrating Pride Month is a good way to bring sinners to Jesus. We replaced “Go and make disciples,” with “Love the sinner but hate the sin.
“If God had intended the mission of the church to be “Love the sinner and hate the sin,” then THAT is what Jesus would have said as He ascended into Heaven. “Go ye into all the world and find common ground. Remember, nobody is perfect. Love is love is love. They won’t care how much you know until they know how much you care. And I am with you always.”
While it’s not a bad idea to “look for common ground” with other people, it is a terrible idea to turn “common ground” into “Holy ground.” Just because we agree with each other doesn’t necessarily mean we are right. The participants of a bank robbery share quite a bit of common ground but stealing duffle bags full of other people’s money is still a sin.
Pride month was like a bank robbery. The LGBTQ activists burst into the bank lobby, looking fabulous in their rainbow masks. They tell us to sit on the floor with our backs against the wall and watch their parade. They order us to applaud and cheer. They demand we give them children to adopt. They demand access to OUR children. They demand our undivided attention to their suffering while simultaneously telling us that they just want to be left alone to live in peace.
You (not me) believe that caving in to every demand is the best way to reach them with the gospel. You think you can “love the bank robber but hate the robbery” because you think love is as easy as never telling anyone they’re wrong. You think love “means never having to say you’re sorry.”
Your efforts to find common ground have filled up the church with unrepentant bank robbers. Some of the robbers have even become preachers and you let them tell you how to live out the Christian faith. You nod approval when they speak their lies. “Jesus had two dads!”
Christianity has no common ground with other religions. Jesus continually insisted that He was the ONLY WAY to God because He knew that you were going to come along and want bank robbers to like you. He knew you would deny Him in order to be popular with evil people. Jesus knew you were going to affirm sinners and call it “love.”
Make no mistake, Christians. Celebrating Pride month is NOT loving sinners. It is hating Jesus. The “common ground” you’re standing on is quicksand.
Wisdom will save you from the ways of wicked men,
from men whose words are perverse,
who leave the straight paths
to walk in dark ways,
who delight in doing wrong
and rejoice in the perverseness of evil,”
Proverbs 2:11
One Response
Actively participating in sinful behavior is not “loving the sinner, hating the sin”, it’s hating the sinner by enabling the sin, which, of course, is not the same thing. The former sentiment, while not a direct quote, is still biblical, while the latter is not.
