Have you managed to remain un-woke?
Good for you!
There’s a lot of buzz about “wokeness” right now. So much that people who know NOTHING about the current culture have heard of it. Really! People who still think Pierce Brosnan plays James Bond know about it. “Woke” is such a commonly understood concept that even Evangelical Christians are talking about it and those people still think James Bond is played by Roger Moore!
To your credit, you Evangelicals don’t speak fondly of “wokeism.” You seem to grasp that “wokeness” (which used to be called ‘social justice’) is a religion that is not compatible with Evangelicalism (which used to be called ‘Christianity’). You are loudly denouncing the apostles of woke as liars (who used to be called ‘journalists’) and the disciples of wokeism as power-mad perpetrators of evil (who used to be called ‘politicians).
But you’re getting carried away in your zeal.
Your condemnation of woke folks borders on fanaticism, and not the good kind of fanaticism. Yours is the wild-eyed, foaming at the mouth, thump a bible, light a torch, kill-them-all-and-let-God-sort-them-out kind of fanaticism. While I share your disdain for the gospel of wokeism, I’d like to humbly remind you of something:
“In your anger do not sin; when you are on your beds, search your hearts and be silent.
Offer right sacrifices and trust in the Lord.” (Psalm 4:4)
Keep in mind that the grace of God is the only thing separating you from those you despise. You have nothing within your self to combat evil. You have no virtues. You have no strength. You have no wisdom. Were it not for God’s grace, you’d be Wokey McWokerton, burning down restaurants, looting CVS, shouting expletives at police, and believing yourself to be a hero.
I’m NOT suggesting that you give up the fight against evil. (Let me repeat that so it can be heard over the wild-eyed fanatics shouting, “F*** Joe Biden!”) I’m NOT SUGGESTING you give up the fight against evil. God calls Christians to stand for truth. God calls us to oppose the wicked.
Just remember that God reserves vengeance for Himself. In your battle against darkness, don’t get lost yourself.
“And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.”
(2 Corinthians 9:8)
One Response
While I agree with what you’re saying about being careful we, as Christians, don’t cross the line and start acting in the same way as the ungodly. I do think we can appreciate the sentiment behind the F Joe Biden chant. Most Americans don’t agree with the leadership and policies being put forth by this administration. The chant seems like a harmless way to get that point across. He is simply not a good leader. We can list all the reasons, but I won’t. Are there better ways? Sure, but this one is funny and it caught on in a culture that is not Christian. I view it as an announcement that Joe Biden is not good at his job and we all know it.
