Frequently Asked Questions

1. Where is Vacay with Comics Happening July 28-30, 2023?

We’re being hosted by Cedar Lake Ministries in Cedar Lake, Indiana. You can visit the website for the campground by clicking here

2.  Can You Explain the Registration Process Even More Clearly? (And Maybe Provide Examples?)

We’re glad you asked! To register for Vacay with Comics, you will need to add to your cart:  one (1) ticket for every member of your group (over the age of three years), and at least one room with enough beds to accommodate everyone. Larger groups may need to reserve more than one room.   There are two types of registration tickets: Vacay with Comics and ULTRA Vacay with Comics. If you plan to check in on Friday,  July 28th–you will need to buy Vacay with Comics tickets.  If you plan to come EARLY, checking in on Thursday, July 27th–then you will purchase ULTRA Vacay with Comics Tickets.

Example #1:  Amanda and Luke have four children, but one of them will be only 2-years-old in July of 2023.  They want to check in on Thursday to enhance the comedy experience!  Amanda will put five “ULTRA” tickets in her cart, as well as one of the CEDARS rooms, because they love the option of having their own fridge and microwave. She plans to bring a portable crib for the toddler.   Once the tickets and room are in her cart, she is ready to check out.

Example #2:  Bart and Connie always camp with their in-laws, Brett and Bonnie.  Altogether, they have 5 kids (all over the age of three years). But, unfortunately, they can’t get away from work and school until Friday. Bart adds nine “Vacay with Comics” tickets to his cart, and reserves a VIP Cedars room for his whole family to share.

3.  Is There a Payment Plan Option?

Unfortunately, our options are limited because of our money exchange software. (The software requires you to pay for your entire order in full.)  However, one thing you might consider is making several orders in stages.

If you buy at least one ticket–plus a room–that will allow me to open up a file for your group.  Then, you can add more tickets to that room as your finances allow.   So, if you reserve a 4-Occupancy room and one Vacay Ticket, you can buy tickets for up to three more attendees at a later date.

(Note: At checkout, please mention in the “comment” section that you intend to add extra orders. Also, please make all orders under the same name, for easier filing.)

4.  What is The Cancellation Policy?

Due to the value of these tickets and the sheer amount of demand, all sales are final.

5. Now That I Have My Tickets and Room, What Should I Do?

If you’ve paid for your tickets and room, you will receive a confirmation email. Within seven business days, you will be contacted by a Vacay with Comics representative to complete your registration, getting the names of everyone in your party and answering any further questions. (If you do not hear from us within the seven business days, please email amanda@johnbranyan.com)

6. What time is check-in and check-out?

If you have purchased a standard “Vacay with Comics” ticket for each member of your group, check-in will be 3:00pm (Central Standard Time) on Friday, July 28th.  All ULTRA Vacay with Comics registrants will check in Thursday, July 27th.

What Should I Pack?

Towels and linens are provided, including bath towels, wash cloths, bedsheets, and blankets. Beds in Rest-A-While (hotel) and Cedars Lodge (motel) have bedspreads. The dorm-style lodges (Hickory and Lakeview) have thin blankets. Some guests prefer to bring additional blankets. All guests must bring their own beach towels, if going to the lakefront. Snacks will be available for purchase in the Kandy Kabin at select times. Feel free to bring outside snacks, as desired.  Dress will be camp-casual. Bug spray and sunscreen are strongly recommended.

8. Are pets allowed?

Pets are only permitted in the RV park, when leashed or kept inside an RV. Necessary registered service animals are welcome.

9. Is alcohol or smoking allowed?

No alcohol is permitted on the grounds. Smoking is prohibited except in designated smoking areas, which are the gravel parking lots, no less than 8 feet from any entrance. Smoking is prohibited inside lodging, and will result in a cleaning fee.

10. Where is the Nearest Airport, Hospital, and Grocery Store?

The nearest airport is Chicago Midway International Airport. The nearest Hospital is Saint Anthony’s in Crown Point.  The closest grocery store is Strack & Van Til which is right down the road at 9605 Lincoln Plaza, Cedar Lake, IN 46303.

11. Does the campground have WiFi?

Yes. WiFi is available in all lodging and meeting spaces, and the password can be provided at check-in, if requested.

12. Do I need a ticket for my babies and toddlers?

You do not require a Vacay or Ultra Vacay ticket for children 3 and under. However, you will provide the names and ages of everyone in your family/group when you are contacted for further information (after you have completed the payment process).

13. Are there handicapped accessible buildings and lodging?

All main meeting spaces and lodges are wheelchair accessible. The Rest-A-While hotel features a ramp entrance and two rooms with accessible entry showers. Please specify if you will require wheelchair accessibility.

14. Are people allowed to bring outside food on the grounds?

Yes! Outside food is permitted in lodging and meeting spaces. Please take advantage of the fridges, ovens, and microwaves in rooms that provide them!

15. What do I do if someone in my group has a food allergy?

Food allergies should be communicated to the Vacay with Comics team as soon as possible.

Do you have any pictures from the last time you did Vacay with Comics?

YES!  We certainly do!
