Here is a handy checklist to consider before posting comments online:
- Hesitate for a moment before submitting the comment.
- Check the comment for stupidity.
- Remove the stupid parts of the comment.
- Submit the comment.
Diligently following this checklist will reduce the instances of humiliation you’ll suffer.
However, even the most vigilant commenters will say stupid things on occasion.
Here is a handy checklist to consider after posting a stupid comment online:
- Admit the comment was stupid.
- Restate the comment with the stupid parts removed.
Smart people admit when they’re stupid.
Open-minded people are aware of their own potential for stupidity.
Consider the following exchange:

Using my handy checklist, the commenter could have avoided a lot of embarrassment.
With just a moment’s hesitation, she might have noticed:
- The inconsistency of being “open-minded” about a creator existing while “having no doubt” that said creator is unknowable.
- “All religious introspection is a waste of time” is a statement that requires religious introspection.
- Defining religious introspection as “pseudo-intellectual games” means the commenter must possess an “insecure ego”.
Of course, stupidity happens to all of us.
And sometimes we need others to point out the errors, mistakes, inconsistencies, flubs…
…stupidity.
Open-minded people appreciate it when someone points out an error.
Because open-minded people like to fix errors.
This is sometimes called, “learning”.
Learning is not easy for insecure egos.
Insecure egos won’t retract stupid comments.
So here’s one final checklist.
When you want to delude yourself into believing you’ve got everything figured out:
- Claim that you’re open-minded.
- Ridicule ideas you don’t understand.
- Pretend you’re not following this checklist.

We can add this to the list of contradictions which appear IN THE SAME COMMENT from this particular individual.
Didn’t you write an entire post featuring this nonsense? (I can’t remember any keywords to help me find it!)
Some of the heathens helpfully keep their logic in tight circles. This is much preferred over rambling blather. I prefer they keep their incoherence short and succinct.
I FOUND IT, I FOUND IT!!!!
“Trust me, I can’t be trusted” is the name of the post…

“Morality is not a product of evolution…morality is something that evolved.”
LOL!
I had forgotten that gem!
Also, there’s this one:
“There’s no absolute right and wrong, unfortunately for all of us. We can only attempt to pursue the path of least harm…The fact is that ‘right’ and ‘wrong’ is nowhere near as simplistic as some Christians would like to believe. But we can still try our best.”

She has indeed made contradictory statements into an art form. No such thing as right and wrong…pursue the path of least harm.
Classic.
There’s no right and wrong…but the right thing to do is attempt to pursue right anyway… There’s no right and wrong… but we can try our BEST not to be wrong!
Simply put: right and wrong are nowhere near as simplistic as Christians would like. (Those silly Christians who think it’s always wrong to starve children.)
Having read most of the posts in the comment section for violet I found it interesting the she would send you to Wikipedia for evidence because we know it is far more trustworthy than the Bible. I am glad I am not as smart as some of those people seem to be. I will pause before I hit the post comment button.
I am constantly confused by the anger most atheists show towards Christians. We get it you don’t believe, but why do you care so much that I do. My faith in Jesus makes me a better person to everyone around me. I am more loving and less selfish than I would be without Christ. So if you really are so open minded move on and stop trying to convince me that your faith in no god is some how better than my faith in God. I never asked for your help, move along now.
“Those convinced against their will are if the same opinion still”
I am not sure who said that, but my wife qoutes it to me all the time, and she’s pretty smart.
What struck me as funny is a pseudo-intellectual condemning pseudo-intellectualism. Of course, why use 5 words to say what you mean, when 500 will do so much better. KISS-Keep It Simple Stupid.
